Sydney Picnic Blanket
The Sydney Picnic Blanket is an experimental design /textile project that documents a unique moment in time.
With restrictions and lockdown rules relaxed, and the onset of warm spring weather, Sydneysiders are rediscovering the many beautiful picnic sites Sydney has to offer.
Sydney Picnic Blanket has emerged as a part of this moment. Between textile art and design, the quilted blanket features a map of Sydney’s coastline appliquéd onto a traditional picnic gingham background. The soft landscape is shaped with contour lines inviting the user is invited to customize the rug, labelling favourite picnic locations with cross stitches. The blanket is slowly overlaid with places and memories and can be passed onto future generations of picnickers.
A collaboration between fable and designer Tanguy Le Moing, this blanket is a soft testament of connection to place - both memories and future possibilities mapped onto the same tactile surface.
